Ayodhya - The Real Issue..!!

Babri Masjid pre 1992
Anyone following the general awareness is sure to know the hype Ayodhya Verdict has created in recent times.  But obscurely very few are aware of the incidents that had led to The Verdict larger than the Nation.  Few facts about the issue are pointed out as follows.:

  1. Ayodhya is a city located in Faizabad District in Uttar Pradesh.
  2. According to Hindu mythology it was the birthplace of Lord Ram.  And a temple dedicated to the lord stood there before 1527.
  3. In 1527, the Mughal King Babur defeated the Hindu King of Chittodgad, Rana Sangrama Singh at Sikri, and took over the region.
  4. Mughal Empire wanted to rule over Ayodhya as they thought it being located in center of India would serve as prime importance to them. However later they shifted their base to Delhi.
  5. Babur appointed Mir Baqi, in charge of the region as viceroy.
  6. Mir Baqi, allegedly destroyed the temple at Ayodhya and built the Babri Masjid, naming it after Emperor Babur.
  7. During British reign there were many attempts made to build a Temple near the Masjid but the issue being sensitive was reffered to district court and in 1885 the judge ruled out saying "The Masjid built by Emperor Babar stands on the border of Ayodhya.  It is most unfortunate that a Masjid should have been built on land specially held sacred by the Hindus, but as that event occurred 356 years ago, it is too late now to agree with the grievances."
  8. Post Independence in 1948, Indian Government barred Muslims even to be cited around 200 Yards from the mosque, while allowing Hindus to continue offering their pujas to Lord Ram inside the mosque.
  9. But when Hindus demanded some modifications in the Mughal Arcitecture, it created Muslim unrest in many parts of the country.
  10.  In 1950 idols were put inside the mosque. Both sides to the dispute filed civil suits. The government locked the gates, saying the matter was sub-judice and declared the area “disputed".
  11. In 1986 A district judge ordered the gates of the mosque to be opened after almost three decades and allowed Hindus to worship inside the “disputed structure.” A Babri Mosque Action Committee was formed as Muslims protested the move to allow Hindu prayers at the site.
  12. In 1990 the vote politics was initiated by then BJP president Lal Krishna Advani who took out a cross-country rathyatra to garner support for the move to build a Ram temple at the site. And I need not mention that BJP was successful in its tactics.
  13. On 6th December 1992, a rally of karsevaks by then BJP President LK Advani in Ayodhya at controversial land turned into Riot and resulted into demolition of the Babri Masjid.  For this rally a commitment, that the mosque would not be harmed, was made to the Indian Supreme Court by organisers.
  14. The Supreme court ordered a survey to find out whether a temple to Lord Ram existed on the site. And the activity of excavation led to discovery of Stone slabs and other debris inscipted with Hindu Slokas and lines composed in Sanskrit-Nagari Script. On their depiction it was found they were in praise of the human incarnation of Lord Vishnu and mentioned the dedication of a Temple so large in the history to the Lord.
  15. Hence the survey could present evidence of a temple under the mosque. However it was refuted by Muslim groups by disputes, etc.
  16. The Committee formed to investigate the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992 presented its report to Manmohan Singh Government in 2009 after 17 Years.
  17. And finally after 18 Years the Supreme Court decided to deliver the verdict over the anciently disputed case on 24th September, 2010 which got furthed delayed by 6 days to 30th September, 2010.
While the world looks for the decision tommorrow there are skeptism of fresh unrest nationwide and hence the new tentions about communal rage.  While both the parties involved promises to take the decision with right vain, the government has claimed to be all set to keep the situation under control.
